Dubai Air Show Opens To Industry On The Mend Amid COVID-19

The much awaited Dubai Air Show is here in Dubai, the city of intriguing landmarks. The year’s biennial Air Show which opened in Dubai on Sunday to the world is coming when we all are still reeling from the effect of COVID-19 pandemic and the aviation industry that has been hard-hit by the coronavirus, but on the mend.

As we all are aware that the Boeing and Airbus have traditionally been the kings of the aviation trade show. They are competing for multibillion-dollar Gulf-based airline purchases and hammering out final details minutes before back-to-back press conferences.

However, the five-day exhibition of this year’s air show is expected to be on low-key contrary to what it used to be in the past due to the subdued state of flying and travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Despite the low key nature, we have so far watched in awe in the air show’s first day as Russia, and Israel displayed their respective military hardwares amid cheers from watchers.

Furthermore, more than 100 American companies are exhibiting at this year’s air show, including defense giants Lockheed Martin and Raytheon.

The U.S. Embassy’s charge d’affaires, Sean Murphy, said

“We are committed to deepening and strengthening this vital strategic relationship,”  Furthermore, at the opening of the U.S. pavilion, he also thanked the UAE for its help in the U.S.-led evacuations out of Afghanistan.

This year’s Air Show is action packed as Russian officials unveil a mockup of the Sukhoi Su-75 Checkmate stealth fighter jet, a direct competitor to the American F-35, reflected in the ceiling, at the Air Show in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021. Like said above, the biennial Dubai Air Show opened Sunday as commercial aviation tries to shake off the coronavirus pandemic.

It may interest you to know that this is the first air show that Israel is attending as it tries to assert itself as a regional power and player in the middle-East.
